IndieGoGo Campaign Definitely Helped The Diary of Preston Plummer

Our Indiegogo campaign for our new film The Diary of Preston Plummer was a huge help! Thank you to everyone who donated to the campaign. We didn't reach our goal but the funds we did receive are so needed and will help run the business behind the film as we work toward selling the film. So thanks everyone!
I have to give a shout out to Indiegogo allowing campaigns to keep the funds they raise. Again, every penny counts and knowing we will receive what we raise even if we don't hit our goal is a huge relief. Kickstarter will only release money if you reach your goal. I greatly prefer the Indiegogo philosophy.
I would highly recommend including a crowdfunding campaign in your financing structure for your film. Not everyone wants to invest in movies but they may have a few bucks they are willing to donate so why not tap into the donation dollars too? A little goes a very long way so I wouldn't ignore this avenue for financing.
The one downside to crowdfunding is feeling like you're constantly spamming your friends and family for money. And it's usually the people who know you who will donate. So be careful to not bombard your contacts constantly. They want to help and be supportive but they have their own lives and projects too worry about.
And remember, if you ask for donations and receive them, you really should give back when those contacts ask you for donations for their projects or adventures or charities. It's easy to only think about yourself and your own project. You must give to receive! Good luck!

Halfway to Our Fundraising Campaign for The Diary of Preston Plummer!

We are halfway through our fundraising campaign for our new film The Diary of Preston Plummer. We are excited to report that we are nearing 25% of our goal. We have 2 weeks left and hoping to reach 100%!

Take Me Home to Brooklyn!

Our film Take Me Home has been accepted to the Brooklyn Film Festival! What's so cool about this event is that it allows me to bring the film back to where my journey in filmmaking began.
On top of it being the beginning of my journey. Brooklyn was the beginning of Take Me Home's journey as well. Our first part of filming began in Brooklyn and we stayed in Brooklyn with Sam's sister and my great friend Margaret during the shoot. Who doesn't want to film in New York and be able to have fresh New York bagels for breakfast? The breakfast of champion filmmakers.
As for the beginning of my filmmaking journey, I was living in Brooklyn and freelancing as a writer/editor in publishing when I decided it was time to follow my dream to work in film. I interned on a couple of movies and bored my husband and friends to tears with all the drama of making a major career shift when I already had a thriving career in an entirely different industry.
The switch from publishing to filmmaking wasn't easy as I really enjoyed publishing and the friends I had made in that world. But my gut was telling me I had to work in film and I finally decided to follow it.
My poor husband who is the most supportive man on Earth has had to listen to me go on and on about movies and watch me run off to location after location to work. And yet, he's my biggest fan and always there with a hug and a cheer even when I come home from set after a long night shoot and collapse in bed, half delirious from the work. Thank you my dear husband and best friend.
I can still remember jogging and biking Prospect Park a million times and thinking about my future. Am I crazy to be thinking about being a film producer - I would ask myself? But hey, if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere.
It's been a long road to this point and how cool is it that I can share one of our completed films with my former hometown, where it all began, and with my friends who were there from the beginning rooting me on? Thanks Brooklyn and all my friends there. You inspired me and pushed me to live my dream.

A Film: A Creative Symphony

Tonight we received the final score from our composer for our new film The Diary of Preston Plummer. Wow! As my director Sean said, "I am not a particularly godly man but: Jesus. Fucking. Christ. That. Was. Awesome."
Chris Brady is a musical genius. I just love him so much. Thanks Chris for a wonderful score. Hearing it, I was reminded why I love filmmaking. I get to bring together the most creative, talented people and let them create magic.
From a single idea to a full blown masterpiece filled with the creative inspiration of a very large group of people is such a cool thing to be a part of. It's like a big puzzle and you never know where the next piece will be found, but when you find it, it's oh so exciting!
I step back and think about all the challenges and joys along the way of making this film and then I see the culmination of it all on the big screen, and I can't help but smile. I live for those moments.
Anyway, all this by saying, I think I have the best job in the world. Thanks everyone for making it so great!

Not Since You is on Netflix streaming as of today May 1, 2011. I can't tell you how awesome it is to go to Netflix and hit play and our little film starts playing. Super cool feeling.
